Specialty Imaging: Certificate in Computed Tomography (CT)

Program Overview

Expand your career opportunities with additional certification

Computed tomography (CT) technologists take images of the body using a strong x-ray machine. This machine takes images in “slices” that are put together by a computer to create a highly detailed image. These images aid doctors in diagnosing a wide range of medical conditions.

With Ozarks Tech, you gain the knowledge and training you need to take on the duties and challenges of a CT career:

  • Operate advanced machines to create clear and accurate images
  • Explain the process to patients and help them feel at ease
  • Administer contrast to patients for more detailed imaging

The demand for skilled CT technologists continues to rise. Begin your path to a rewarding and high demand career through Ozarks Tech.

Mission Statement

The program aims to provide competent and well-prepared entry-level computed tomography technologists to the healthcare community. It provides an affordable and comprehensive curriculum that adequately prepares students for practicing CT in the healthcare setting. The program also provides the necessary clinical and didactic preparation to successfully earn the ARRT (CT) credentials.

Program Goals

  1. To provide the current radiologic technology student or a currently ARRT(R) registered technologist expand their knowledge into the field of computed tomography (CT) through didactic and clinical experiences, to further their ventures in the imaging field.
  2. To respond to the needs of the healthcare community and the needs of the imaging field.
  3. The goal is to successfully prepare the students to pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) national registry examination for computed tomography on the first attempt.
  4. To prepare the students to be employable once completing the program.

Students have two online pathway options to complete the CT certification: the post-primary Certificate in Computed Tomography (CT) program or non-degree seeking.

All students must possess at least one of the following to be eligible for either pathway:

  • ARRT (R)
  • ARRT (N)
  • CMNT – NTMCB
  • AART (T)

English-language Proficiency

Any student whose first language is not English, must document their English language proficiency by completing a TOEFL test.  This requires a minimum TOEFL iBT passing score of 81, with a minimum speaking score of 24. *Program will waive TOEFL requirement if student has already obtained a bachelor’s degree from a US regionally accredited University*

DACA Students

Ozarks Tech cannot guarantee that students classified under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program will receive approval to take the national registry exam after program/course completion. Please contact the ARRT to inquire about the registry exam requirements.

The Computed Tomography (CT) program is a selective, admission-based program.

Please contact the ARRT to inquire about the registry exam requirements.

The Computed Tomography (CT) program is a selective, admission-based program. Students must complete the application criteria below before they will be considered for admittance to the program.

Please use the application checklist to find the requirements for admittance to this program.

Application Checklist

TO APPLY, READ FIRST – This checklist will assist you in keeping track of the necessary items that must be completed for the online application process.

Selection into the program is based on a point system. Therefore, this form will allow you to track your accumulated points.

Students will be requested at the time of acceptance to submit documentation for required immunizations and TB testing.

Notification of Acceptance

Students accepted into the program will be notified through their OTC e-mail and portal, within 2-4 weeks after the application deadline.

Once offered a seat in the program:

  • Attend online orientation before the start of the program
  • Upload vaccine and immunization records
  • Complete a background check
  • Complete a drug screening
  • All seats are contingent upon successful and timely completion of OTC and programmatic requirements
  • The clinical component requires weekly clinical hours and competencies required to complete.
  • 14 – 24 hours per week of clinical experience is required, and will be scheduled per block by the clinical coordinator
  • Students must be able to complete the required ARRT CT Clinical Competencies to be eligible to sit for the ARRT (CT) registry Students can elect where they would like to perform their clinical rotations as long as Ozarks Tech can sign an affiliation agreement with the clinical site
  • Students may have to be rotated to other clinical locations to meet the ARRT clinical requirements to be eligible to sit for the registry
  • If students would like the program to find their locations, the program currently has affiliation agreements with hospitals and imaging centers across the southwest Missouri region

Accreditation

The Computed Tomography program’s courses are approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

The ARRT Program number is: 3587

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will produce quality images and be able to evaluate their images for image quality accurately.
  2. Students will be able to communicate effectively with the patient and other healthcare team members.
  3. Students will be able to apply critical thinking skills by changing technical factors and adapt their patient care to the different scenarios encountered.
  4. Students will demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior.
  5. Students will successfully pass coursework and pass the ARRT national registry exam on the first attempt.
  6. Students will be able to perform effectively in a variety of settings within the imaging department.
  7. Students will display proficiency and competency for an entry-level imaging professional.

For students who do not want to pursue a certificate in Computed Tomography, however they would like to take courses towards the ARRT structured education components. Taking these approved courses helps students who prefer formalized learning and accountability.

*Please be aware that the student must satisfy the clinical component requirements on their own in this pathway.

Computed Tomography Certificate of Specialization

Certificate of Specialization: 15 Hours

The online didactic certificate program for Computed Tomography (CT) is designed for students currently working as radiologic technologists or holding a certificate or associate degree in radiologic technology.

The program is designed to meet the structured degree requirements for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), thus meeting the criteria for the student to sit for the national registry exam. ARRT, 1255 Northland Dr., St. Paul, MN, 55120-1155. (651) 687-0048. www.arrt.org.

The certificate program is designed to be completed in 16 weeks. To meet the national registry exam requirements, the students will be required to perform clinical duties and competencies while being directly supervised by an ARRT-registered CT technologist at a clinical location that currently holds or that can obtain a clinical affiliation with Ozarks Tech.  All required competencies and structured education must be successfully met before sitting for the ARRT exam.

The certificate program consists of seven core courses to prepare the student for the ARRT national registry exam in computed tomography. The courses are built around the didactic requirements for the registry exam.

Students must obtain at least 75% or higher in all CTR prefix coursework to pass and be awarded the certificate. Acceptance into the program requires the student to hold an ARRT license in radiography.
